Animocity started out as a site for Royal College of Art animation students to share their films, production stories and general thoughts. Now we're all long-graduated but we keep updating (irregularly)!

We are all freelance film-makers, so if you like what you see and would like to discuss commissioning work you can contact any of us by emailing lauriehi_AT_hotmail_DOT_com. Any comments about the work or the site are also welcome at the same address. We hope you enjoy your stay.

The blurb says:
”Estilhaços” is the space of “shorts”. Visual, musical, film and performing short moments, that will succeed each other and merge, in the space of Teatro José Lucio da Silva. Piece after piece, block on block, defragmenting and reordering, and emerges ”Estilhaços”, as a construction of small moments, which by virtue of a common direction and sense, take on new form.

Laurie Hill works on Consciousness – A Performance lecture by Marcus Du Sautoy

Posted by lauriehill at 18:25, May 24th, 2013

Director:
Laurie Hill

Spring 2013 was another great visuals project. This time working with post-production wizards One Of Us to bring a fab visual dimension to a rather special one-off event at London’s Barbican in March:

Consciousness – A Performance lecture by Marcus Du Sautoy, Simonyi Professor for the Public Understanding Of Science and mathematics guru.

For this, I was able to draw on some fascinating archival material from the Wellcome Collection and elsewhere.

Laurie Hill creates more 2ManyDjs live visuals

Posted by lauriehill at 18:12, May 24th, 2013

Director:
Laurie Hill

I’ve mentioned it before but haven’t gone in to a great amount of detail but over the past few years I’ve been heavily involved in creating live concert visuals for 2ManyDjs and also David and Steph’s rather wonderful and generous Radio Soulwax project.

Late summer 2012 is festival season and so I was pretty busy then with some nice things for the live set.

Been doing some off and on work on a new Radio Soulwax hour – still to be released but in the pipeline!

Laurie Hill creates Dickens’s Dream for Dickens and London at the Museum Of London

Posted by lauriehill at 1:38, February 26th, 2012

Director:
Laurie Hill

Just a note to say I’ve created an animation for Dickens and London – a major exhibition being held at the Museum of London and marking the bicentenary of Charles Dickens’s birth in 2012!

It’s called Dickens’s Dream and is displayed with Dickens’s own writing desk and chair! Its inspiration is the painting of the same name by Robert William Buss.

Dickens and London is the UK’s first major exhibition on the author for over 40 years and is on until June 2012 at the Museum of London.

Laurie Hill on Radio Soulwax

Thought it was worth a wee post to say I’ve been involved for the past couple of years creating visuals for 2ManyDjs ‘Under The Covers’ live shows that have toured all over the world.

I’ve also been involved with the ongoing and rather groovy Radio Soulwax project which launched back in July last year.

I made the Jack In The Box and Celestial Voyage Pt.1 hours and also have some bits and bobs in the Under The Covers tour compilations and Introversy.
